Darren Hayes
Too Close For Comfort
On DVD November 1st 2006
Roadshow Music

Such an artist of many talents in Mr Darren Hayes. His latest DVD Too Close For Comfort takes a deep look into the normally private life of this openly gay performer. Think In bed with Madonna without all the sex, and that will give you an idea of the honesty that we see here.

This DVD has it all. A mixture of Darren in concert, a look at his public and personal life and a look into the man himself. This was filmed during and after his first solo tour in 2002 in London where he now lives. Having completed his recent shows in Sydney earlier in the year, this DVD comes at the perfect time for fans.

The things that sticks out to me the most while watching this DVD is the fact that Darren is a really a perfectionist in everything that he does. This becomes apparent within the first 20 minutes of the film. The opening scene was taped in 2002 where Darren is telling a reporter the reason why savage garden split up. Darren refers to this as a “Happy Accident”.

Creepin up on you is the opening song of his show sung in a very sexy and suave manner that works the crowd up into a frenzy. Darren’s voice sounds just and good if not better than he does on his cd’s. This is a quality that many performers today lack when they sing live.

The other side is that Darren is very honest and says that in 2002 he came down from this career high. For the first time in his life his records where not selling and he was not the most played artist on radio. Saying Darren recalls the feeling of fear is from his childhood. Many interesting facts are revealed in the documentary making this addictive viewing.

The DVD is set out in a way that you can choose either to watch the documentary or just the concert itself. All set out in a nice Dolby Digital soundtrack perfect for your home theatre.

Look for A Big Night In DVD Released in December 2006.
