Recently on his website Darren Hayes has blogged that he is working on an ambitious double album that is nearing completion.

Hayes admits his current work is, "such a large body of work it's important think to give the listener a chance to go away, take a break and come back to the set."

This belief has given the album a cinematic quality: "I've been planning the narrative of this record quite elaborately actually. As you know, I see the record as being split into two separate movements. Side One and Side Two.

This is of course an homage to vinyl but also a device that acts as a sort of intermission," Hayes says.

And heart-on-your-sleeve is the tone, with Hayes laying it all bare, from his deeper thought to his most private emotions, his forthcoming album sounds as revealing as a naked walk in the park.

"One side is on the surface much more conceptual and fantastical and the other side is seemingly more literal. But actually both sides deal with similar themes. All of them an expression of my feelings and experiences."

"It's just the metaphors that change."

You can see Darren Hayes on the MAX special, ARIA: 20 & Counting - premieres 5.30pm, Saturday 21 October.
