If you saw the name Darren Hayes above and said to yourself, 'Darren who?' that's OK.
The former Savage Garden singer only has one minor hit to his credit
stateside, the 2002 No. 77 chart single 'Insatiable.' He is a huge success overseas, though, especially in England and his native Australia.
And if you can't remember Savage Garden's claim to fame, it is the single 'I Knew I Loved You' from 1999, a song that topped the Hot 100 in Billboard for four weeks and endured on the Adult Contemporary chart for 247 weeks. But Savage Garden wasn't a one-hit wonder. The group also scored a No. 1 single with 1997's 'Truly Madly Deeply' and earned a gold single for 1997's 'I Want You.'
On Tuesday night, Hayes will perform a special acoustic show at the World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St., Philadelphia, debuting songs from his new double-CD, 'This Delicate Thing We've Made.' Among the 25 songs on this heaping-helping of new material are 'A Fear of Falling Under,' 'Casey,' 'The Only One' and 'Maybe.'
Fans can probably expect to hear some Savage Garden songs during the show, in addition to tunes from Hayes' 2002 solo CD 'Spin.' But if you are still wondering where else you heard the easy listening singer, check out Hayes' appearances on the 'Ella Enchanted' movie soundtrack or Rosie O'Donnell's benefit holiday album 'A Rosie Christmas.'
Show time is 7:30. Tickets are $25 to $40; (215) 222-1400.
