Dear Street Team Members
Our International Street Team is a remarkable organization of Darren Hayes fans. It's hard to believe we've been together for over 5 years now. We've shared laughter and tears, our adoration, pride, and respect for Darren and for one another. I think we've always known we're unique. The passionate dedication we have for the man and his music makes us unlike any other fan base in this world. Our bonds continue to strengthen as we enjoy watching Darren and his music evolve. Now it's our turn to take the necessary steps in the evolution of our own organization the Darren Hayes Street Team.
When we started out over 5 years ago it was a very exciting time. Street Teams were a relatively new idea and embraced by so many: fans, artists, industry people, record companies and radio. However, over the years changes have been taking place affecting the Street Team concept. Today, due to industry demands, artists with established music careers must use different strategies for promotion that are becoming less compatible with the Street Team concept. These artists are, as Darren has told us many times, proud simply to have us as fans that enjoy the music they create and offer to us. Now is the time to acknowledge these changes and make adjustments. Darren's fans always embrace change in a remarkably strong way, as does Darren himself.
Right now, we have over 2,080 incredible Darren Hayes fans on our team, and I would like to invite all of you to participate in this change with me now.
The "International Darren Hayes Street Team" will have a new name now, "Darren Hayes Fans News Network". Our new direction is shifting away from a strong, fan based promotion team into the direction of strong fan news network; increasing fan camaraderie, sharing news, appearances, world-wide chart and release information, audio/video files, articles from the media, and of course, pictures! Really nothing will change except we won't be called a "street team" anymore and we won't be doing any organized requesting/voting at radio and video stations. That does not mean you have to stop getting the word out about his music or stop requesting or voting for his music at your local stations. That is a normal part of being a fan. Of course, do what feels right for you but on an individual basis and not in any organized fashion.
For the International team members, you won't have to do anything. I'll change the name of our yahoo group and you'll continue to get messages from me as always only with the new name on them.
For all of our local teams…. Originally I designed the DHST with local teams for the express purpose of keeping local promotion real and honest as well as creating a way for fans that live in the same countries/states/cities to meet and make friends and bond. We don't need local teams for local promotion anymore, but over the years these local teams have become real communities and those friendships and bonds have grown and I think that's wonderful and I don't want to lose that. So to all the local Street Team Leaders, if you would like to keep your groups together, then please discuss with your members what new name you would like for your groups. You can create a new yahoo group, with a new name, and move your members over to it. Or you can re-name your existing group. I will be here to support you and answer any questions as you transition your teams. When moving, or re-naming your groups, remove the words "Street Team" and replace them with what you feel best describes your group's attributes and incorporate that in your new name. You are welcome to use the name Darren Hayes Fans- (insert your country/state/city), for instance, Darren Hayes Fans - USA, if you would like. Our main objective is to keep connected as we transition into our new direction.
Thank you all for your support of our team over the years. I look forward to our continuing commitment to Darren Hayes as his most passionate fans. I know that with the promotion burdens lifted from us, there'll be so many more opportunities to make new friends, especially with the new myspace communities and I look forward to getting to know all of you better than I've ever been able to before.
