That is such a good question. Probably this song by Fleetwood Mac called “Sara” I mean, I had loved music and songs before…But Stevie’s lyrics..her voice..the sadness and the emotion in that song influence me still today.

It takes me a while actually. I often don’t go to sleep until 2 or 3am because my mind is still buzzing. I’ve had my share of party nights but in general it’s room service and a movie in bed for me…

Honestly. I do not read the stuff about me on the net. I know a lot of fans are very disappointed when they meet me and they ask about the BBS etc, and seriously I don’t have a clue. Years ago I used to chat on IRC but I don’t any more. I’m aware of my biggest fans. My management and record company and fan club keep me in the loop but honestly.. To me the internet is your world. Not mine.

You mean completely on my own? Not really. I did write and produce SPIN. I think I am a good collaborator. I write a pretty hefty amount of my songs anyway. Sometimes the other person really just helps me with technical stuff. Sometimes it’s 50/50. I’m sure I’ll write songs completely on my own one day. But it’s not a career goal. I love bouncing off someone else. My main contribution to a song is actually the melody. A lot of people don’t realise that. The lyrics are the final thing I add.

I actually write songs in my head, and with my voice. I hear a melody and sing it. Very rarely do we have an actual written manuscript for the songs. As a kid I studied music right through high school, played guitar and even the trumbone can you believe it?

I know that you are a very spiritual person and you find peace in many ways...are you still a practicing Catholic and how do you reconcile yoga, astrology and Catholicism? It's a personal thing, spirituality but, I was just curious...I think of your talent as a gift from God and feel blessed that you have chosen to share it with the world...

I was raised Church of England, not Catholic. Bt that having been said, I only ever went to church when my grandparents forced me. My view of God came completely from my mother who was raised Catholic, but taught me how to pay and about a more compassionate God than the one most people fear. Today, I definitely believe in God, but it is a looser more spiritual definition that probably has more to do with Karma and energy than with rosary beads if that makes sense. I’m of the believe that God is love. Love is God. That feeling I get when I do yoga is connecting with the love for myself and my universe.

Wow, that’s a long question. I don’t remember you by name so sorry can’t help you out in part one. I hope That Asian shows will be sometime early next year (April?) But all depends on the promoter and when they think it’s best to go.

Gawd! I can’t imagine that. I’d like to have been cast a few years ago when I was thing and gorgeous!! Hahaha. Just kidding. I don’t know, maybe now on stage…the way I am today.

Can you please tell us if there is any more news about the tour dvd/video?

All I can tell you is that we are filming everything. We recorded 32 entire shows in London. But then bits and pieces of every show on the U K. and European Leg. Plus lots of documentary and behind the scenes stuff. It is going to take Grant Marshall a long time to edit it. It should be released sometime next year. I’m not sure if I want to put out a live CD or just make it DVD audio with the vision as well. Who knows..but it is definitely going to be a souvenir of the tour, that’s for sure.

I have no idea how may I’ve seen..but I’ve performed more often than I’ve witnessed if that makes sense. I’ve seen everyone from Michael Jackson and Madonna to Alison Moyet. The concert that had the most impact was Michael Jackson’s Bad Tour in 1987. He was electric and supertalented. I’d say that U2’s Zoo T.V. Tour is probably my fave ever. Although Prince is still the King of live. I can’t choose. Don’t make me choose!

There is talk of an arena tour of the U.K. and the theatres in the rest of Europe from May next year. We aren’t sure at this stage. I may not want to just take a long break and then go back into the studio. Can’t decide yet?

First of all. Celine Dion does not write her own material but is one of the best singers ever. So go Celine! In terms of signing live. I say it. It depends. If it’s at a concert.. Then the ‘Artist’ isn’t really an artist. Why do they have a record deal if they can’t sing?? But if it’s T.V…like a top of the pops of something. Sometimes it’s just easier. You don’t have your sound crew..it’s live to millions..you may have a cold..whatever. In general I sing live on T.V. all the time..but there have definitely been occasions when I’m so glad it’s not live. I guess I take offense at a singers who actually can’t sing and yet have hits. But hey..whatever floats your boat.

It’s so funny. Those cover songs were originally recorded for me. They were a gift for someone I love. But they were so good I couldn’t keep them locked away so I decided to release them. I think the more established I get as a songwriter and singer the more comfortable I feel doing covers live or as a B-Side. I don’t think I’d ever do one on an album. A cover song to me is about paying tribute to my influences. Crazy for you? Probably not. Ray of light? Maybe.

I wrote a diary entry about it for the Sony Site. It’s not up yet. But in a short I can tell you I was freaked out and didn’t know whether we should even be doing a show considering how sad the nation was. It was a sad moment and also a brave one for those who came to the show. I loved Russia and it’s people.

I’m fine. I contracted viral laryngitis in Australia and it was horrible. But I’ve also been on the mend from a fatigue virus for years so naturally touring takes a lot out of me physically. I have to be very careful hence no hugging and kissing. It sounds stupid but the tiniest cold could really take me out so I have to lead a bit of a strange life on the road. I’ve seen many throat specialists and my voice is just fine. Thanks for asking!

For those who don’t know..the show in Belfast was stopped midway due to a false fire alarm. Everyone had to leave the building…then come back in 15 minutes later. It was like having your parents walk in while you’re making out. Very strange. But we just got on with it.

I have to say..it’s kind of weird because soundcheck is a very inward time for me and most performers. We’re busy checking to make sure everything is working..sounding good..and you don’t expect to have to be ‘on’. I’m usually feeling very reserved and not at all like my stage self. I’m glad people understand that and don’t expect me to be this over the top guy. I know as a fan of say, U2..if I went to a soundcheck I’d just be soaking it all up…watching everything and fascinated probably at the chance to see behind the curtain so to speak…so I understand why you guys dig it.

Never have. Never would. I have an IPOD...but I own all the music on it. I buy the CD..upload it to my laptop and then put it on my IPOD. But I’m old fashioned. I believe the people who wrote the songs and performed them deserve to be paid for what they did. I’ve obviously earned a lot of money from music. But I feel for new bands. Record companies are spending less and less money on promoting new bands these days because they don’t sell as many records anymore. It just means in the long term we all miss out. I think MP3’s are cool for introducing you to new music..but in general I respect an album more when I can physically hold it.

Of course it has. It has made me harder to reach. There are very few silent moments. This makes connecting on a personal level difficult because everyone wants a piece of you and n one is ever satisfied. That’s how it can feel sometimes. But I have not turned into an asshole. I think in many ways I’ve gone the opposite way and shunned the whole ‘celebrity’ lifestyle. I’d rather hang out with my old school friends than Madonna.

Oh my God. There are so many. The entire break of Savage Garden was one big piece of bullshit. Then there was the fiasco about my hair. In general I think I am so much more normal than people realize. Sometimes the fiction is more interesting than the boring truth. I do think that I have a reputation that is so far away from the person I actually am. I’m really not a huge attention seeker. That’s just a brave cover I employ in order to be larger than life on stage. In general I am quite an insular person with very few people in my life. I’d seek out a one on one chat than a night our clubbing any day. I just don’t think I’m much of a celeb really. I don’t really want to be famous. I just want to sing. Simple as that.

Nope. My message in that song is that I don’t think God or Jesus was or is what we fear. That he was probably one cool dude.

Yes because it’s so honest. Were else could I have gone but closer to you..closer to the music? To myself. Savage Garden was beautiful. Maybe the highest peak I’ll ever reach in terms of audience or sales..but spiritually. This part of my career feels the most rewarding.

Career? Don’t know. It’s an uphill battle and sometimes I don’t know if I have the right amount of energy to compete. But at the same time..I’m very lucky and grateful to be given the opportunity to start again. Life? Year I think so. Nothing is working out the way I planned but I think that’s a good thing. I’m learning so much and becoming a better man for all of it.

It’s the best tour we’ve all been on. This group of people are incredible. I think our core group is only 25, but then there are many local crew in every country.

Left out? That’s a weird thing to say, because that suggest that there’s some personal reason why I’m not there. Believe me..if I had a hit at radio, I’d be there in a heartbeat. I live there!! But you just have to go where the sun shines. I have no doubt in my mind I’ll have another hit in the U.S. one day. It’s not something you can predict or force. You just have to go with the flow. But surely U.S. fans know I love them!! I moved there for crying out loud!!!

As long as people understand that you can’t please everybody. In general I think I’m very general of my time and affection for the people who got me here. Some days of course I’m tired or ill..and I appreciate it when people respect that instead of expect something. It is weird to me that I can be nice to someone and wave or smile but they’ll complain that I didn’t stop. What people don’t understand is that sometimes I’m on my way somewhere!! Sometimes I’m running late and to stop and taken an individual photo with 50 people is just unrealistic. It’s not that I don’t love and appreciate you! It’s just that that I have to be somewhere. Or I’m about to fall over from exhaustion..in general if it’s a public performance or event then of course I expect to see people… My house or my hotel room door? That’s not cool but I think people in general are very respectful and I still think I have the coolest fans in the world. You are beautiful to me and I feel I give you the most back and the most sincere thanks in my music and through my performance.
