Big thanks to Nikki (nikki86 on the bbs) for typing this transcript up and giving me permission to share this with you.

Interviewer: todays been a big week with big names popping in to see us here at clyde one including craig david, holly vallance, westlife....now here, 10 to four on a friday afternoon its mr darren hayes, hey!

Darren: Hey, im in fine company

Interviewer: thank you very much...oh you mean the guests, sorry!

Darren: hahahahaha...ok

Interviewer: how u doin?

Darren: im doing really good, im really happy to be here

Interviewer: just passing by, thought you'd pop in for a coffee?

Darren: yeah..thought i'd arrange a tour, play tonight then pop in for a coffee yeah

Interviewer: in a small bedroom somewhere...

Darren: something like that

Interviewer: armidillo tonight, the clyde auditorium, looking forward to it?

Darren: I am... is it the armidillo we're playing in?

Interviewer: yeah!

Darren: oh wow, we passed that on the way here, it looked like the sydney opera house

Interviewer: I was just about to say, we built it specially for you, just to make you feel at more home haha

Darren: well i appreciate that, thank u! haha

Interviewer: looking forward to it then? first time in glasgow alone is it?

Darren: yeah, it is, you know i think this is the first time i've played in scotland actually, ive done some promo here, but never played for an audience and im really just blown away by the response, you know im so grateful that people remember me and that they're up for it cos its a really...a love this show, its a theatre show, its pretty back to basics and audiences so far have been amazing so im really looking forward to it

Interviewer: when your doing this kind of thing do you ever find that you've got time to check out the cities that your visiting or is it like a case of arriving one night, doing the gig, going away the next day?

Darren: yeah, i try to check it out cos you know ive been..god im 30 this year and i started doing this when i was like 21 or something and..

Interviewer: ...thats a long tour!

Darren: haha, yeah, well you very rarely get time to see places, you know and ive started doing that, even today we made sure we could walk around the city and just check out the vibe, you have to do that I think before you get on stage cos then you get a sense of the people and where you are

Interviewer: loads of countries to check out as well on this tour, had a look at the list earlier on, its a HUUUGE list of countries - just 12 days ago you were in Australia, now you're here, you've got Denmark, Sweden, Russia on the way next month, do u ever get time to sit for mabie a week and get have time to yourself, some quality time?

Darren: uh huh, you know its, i dont want to complain about it cos its an incredible job, possibly the best job you could ever have, i think the thing is with music, once you start to do it sometimes it can be 2 years nonstop but then you can take 6 months a year off to make a record so its..im pretty blessed, you know its difficult sometimes on your health but the spirit..what you make up for on stage is more than worth that

Interviewer: you were saying earlier that its the smaller venues your doing, its the "too close for comfort" tour, did u just sit back one day and say "right ok ive had enough of these big gigs, im going to go it alone, im going to do these smaller venues where my fans can appreciate me more?"

Darren: i think i just had to do it, i think, i was presuming no one would know who the heck darren hayes is, and im sure a lot of people still dont, im just that guy from savage garden and i think for me to go out on tour and bite off more than i can chew would be a big mistake, im really connecting with audiences and its a good feeling to sell out, thats a nice feelin, to have a lot of shows, and it is multiple multiple shows sometimes, a bit more physically demanding, but you know, you get to know who your fans are and they get a sense of you and i think thats the only thing i could have done...this time!

Interviewer: clyde auditorium is a good size, you'll enjoy that tonight

Darren: yeah, im looking forward to it

Interviewer: whats the biggest venue on the tour?

Darren: oh we talked about this off air didnt we? in general they're 2,500 to 3,500 seaters but i think in russia we're doing a 10,000 seater which i think will be interesting, our lighting designer is a guy thats worked with U2, on every gig they've ever done

Interviewer: right?

Darren: so it always looks beautiful, he's a good friend of mine, so when you get that kind of production in a small theatre it is actually mind blowing, its beautiful, but its intended to be intimate

Interviewer: cool

Darren: yeeeah

Interviewer: your doing it for the fans, you want it to be more intimate. Theres a friend of mine (hi claire( she's absolutely bonkers about you, you mention your name and her eyes glaze over, she entres this sort of dream-like state

Darren: im like that myself, i look in the mirror sometimes and im like...im kidding! haha

Interviewer: haha are a lot of fans like that? its either all or nothing?

Darren: ..you know what, my fans are really cool!..I have to say, and they're getting cooler...i dunno..or better dressed or something but on this tour i look at them and think "hey! thats my people!" they usually want to stop and chat, they want to talk about the music and im appreciating that my audiences are getting more...i dunno, they've got more in common with me these days so..

Interviewer: they probably find that you get cooler as well

Darren: well i dunno about that, i dunno if im ever cool! but i just know they very rarely stop and scream at me, they want to know about a song and what it meant or they want to tell me a story and thats pretty cool

Interviewer: but do you ever find them really strange?

Darren: haha theres a few..yeah..

Interviewer: (hi claire)

Darren: yeah hi claire! no theres a few that are a bit strange, we got some pretty interesting fan mail this week actually, i saved somethings for the archives, you know theres 5 or 6 in the history of my career that ive saved for the archives

Interviewer: sitting back in your rocking chair when your 70 looking at the knickers that were sent

Darren: mmmmmmhmmm thats right!

Interviewer: eh, the new singles on the way, its the next one from spin its called "I miss you", whens it out?

Darren: you know, its probably out...eh...when.....the 28th of october is the whispered date off of the head phones here, yeah ive just finished the video for it. Its beautiful, i worked with this australian actress who i casted because she was in star wars 2 and im a huge fan, had nothing to do with her supreme acting talent, but its beautiful, its a really simple clip and i love the song.

Interviewer: the strange relationship video was very in your face, very bright and very colourful, obviously its different from that?

Darren: thats right, strange relationship video is very much like the tour, whereas "i miss you" is...its simple again but its just me with my band on stage and its a love song, its pretty simple, soft and sincere, hard to do that in a video and not come off cheesy and working with an actress made it easier cos it made it more real

Interviewer: and when you do this tune 2night is this going to be the one where the audience is going to fall silent, get the lighters out and sway from side to side?

Darren: well i hope they fall silent in awe, if i fall off the stage they'll fall silent as well, i've been known to do that, hopefully not tonight! um..yeah its a good moment in the show actually, i dont wanna give it away, we can talk about it tomorrow but its a really cool moment

Interviewer: so some surprises to be expected then?

Darren: a little bit of a surprise

Interviewer: we're gonna get some savage garden tunes as well?

Darren: definitely!! yeah last night the audience were singing the SG songs so loud i coodav just stopped singing, it was amazing, yeah theres the necessary and the rightful bunch of songs in there, to me..i cant even separate them, spin is my 3rd record and it just happens to be a solo record

Interviewer: any particular tracks we should warn the audience about right now?

Darren: you have to be there on time, thats all i can tell you, its a real surprise! it comes at you out of no where so make sure you're there on time

Interviewer: looking forward to it already!

Darren: cheers

Interviewer: 2night, the armidillo, 28th of october is the new single "I miss you" will i play it now then?

Darren: You could!

Interviewer: Go on then

Darren: thanks a lot!

Interviewer: listen hope it goes well, thanks for popping in!

Darren: no problem, c ya

Interviewer: get those coffees sorted out now..been waiting for them a while! darren hayes at clyde one cheers!

(then they played "i miss you")
